About Us

The Women’s Peace Collection is an enterprise that fully supports women in regions of conflict and post-conflict – as mothers, peace builders, entrepreneurs, and skilled artisans.

We are a company that believes in the power of creative enterprise as a foundation for healthy and vibrant communities.

We offer a meaningful collection of distinctive handmade gifts created by talented women who are rebuilding their lives in the shadows of war, civil strife or crippling poverty. They live in refugee camps, remote villages, distant townships in areas of the world that are considered volatile and challenging. In some instances, the women are left to single handedly support their families, their men having disappeared or died in conflict. In others, the women work closely with their men and together they create family enterprises that support their dignity and well-being.

A woman who is offered the opportunity to actively engage in meaningful enterprise experiences a sense of value and self worth and the knowledge that through her work she can contribute to the wellbeing of her family, community and larger society. No longer a victim of circumstances, she recognizes that it is her own spirit of resilience and resourcefulness that allows her – and her family – to step into their future with optimism. Her world transforms.

Investing in women lays the foundation for prosperity and peace in our world. Each gift on The Women’s Peace Collection is a testament to this hopeful vision: women’s hands are a force for peace.

Guiding Principles

We are guided by the principles of fair trade and compassionate commerce and a steady commitment to empower women through sustainable enterprise. To do this, we:

  • Partner with leading nonprofit organizations and fair trade suppliers whose mission to support women in vulnerable regions of the world resonates with our own. They ensure us that the products are ethically sourced from women’s cooperatives and enterprises. In some instances, we work directly with the artisan communities.
  • Provide financial resources to the women to grow their enterprises. We pay the women responsibly – using our Shared Prosperity Principle as a guideline. In this model, one third of the retail price goes back to the women and the project; one third to shipping these products out of these countries and warehousing them at our facility in Central Massachusetts and one third is re-invested in the company so we can grow it and place more orders with the women.
  • All the gifts on the Collection are selected for their high quality and skilled workmanship. In some instances, we offer the women specific design guidelines so that they can create products that reflect the discerning taste of our customers. In all instances, we offer meaningful gifts that reflect the unique cultural and craft tradition of the artisans.
