Supporting women’s prosperity and peace around the world

The mission of The Amber Chand Foundation is to strengthen women’s economic well being, a vital cornerstone of a peaceful society, while encouraging and celebrating women’s resilience, resourcefulness, and artistry.

It is widely recognized that when women have the opportunity to create their livelihood, the entire community benefits. Women’s money circulates in transformative ways as they tend to the nutritional, educational, and security needs of their children, their families, and the community. In regions of conflict and post-conflict, peace becomes possible.

To advance our mission further and more quickly, we have launched a partnership between The Amber Chand Foundation and The Women’s Peace Collection (formerly The Amber Chand Collection), bridging non-profit goals with those of a profit-making enterprise. With micro-finance grants, the Foundation seeds women’s craft enterprises in the shadow of war, genocide, civil strife and deep poverty, most notably in Afghanistan, Israel and Palestine, Darfur/Sudan and Rwanda.

Each grant provides the opportunity for women artisans to a) purchase the necessary raw materials to produce their handmade products and b) develop their enterprises to respond to the demands of an international market, a market strengthened and sustained by The Women’s Peace Collection. Our work and partnerships are guided by the principles of Fair Trade, compassionate commerce, and a steady commitment to support these craft enterprises over time. To do this, we partner with leading non-profit organizations whose missions are resonant with our own and who are able to provide us with vital support for the work of The Women’s Peace Collection and The Amber Chand Foundation.

Foundation Donors are able to directly impact the lives of these talented women, confident that through these grants, the women will be able to feed their families, educate their children, and regain the dignity that comes with a sustainable livelihood. The Amber Chand Foundation was launched in 2008 as a non-profit grant making institution and is a program initiative of Trusteeship Institute, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit based in Western Massachusetts that supports Gandhi’s principles of stewardship for socially responsible businesses.
