What more hopeful a gift than this cheerful set of miniature Prosperity Baskets – created by Rwandan widows as a gesture of goodwill and prosperity. Each little sisal basket in a colorful palette of reds, blues, yellows, and green stripes is created by the weavers of Kinigi Ladies Association who create baskets both as a way to earn a livelihood and as a way to heal from the wounds of a tragic past.
The prosperity baskets come as A SET OF TWO. Let us choose the colors for you! Baskets can be used as hanging ornaments or as a special gift with a message in side them. Prosperity Cards are included. Each tiny basket measures 3.5×2″.
The Story
The weavers of the Kinigi Ladies Weaving Association live in the lush region of Virunga National Park – home to 700 mountain gorillas and the largest habitat in the world for these endangered primates. Many of the weavers arrived at this remote area after abandoning their homes during the genocide in 2004. And here, at the Weaving Association, women who are from the former Hutu and Tutsi tribal factions, come together to earn their livelihood through this thriving enterprise and learn to heal from the wounds of a tragic past. Peace, prosperity and reconciliation pave their way.
