Harmony Bracelet-Gold
This gorgeous beaded cuff bracelet tastefully designed in gold, black, white, and brown glass beads is a testament to the skills of the bead artists of Mayalan Cooperative in Northern Guatemala. Each is created with thousands of tiny glass beads and strung on a simple wooden loom by talented women who have gathered at this cooperative to learn new skills, create a livelihood for their families and rebuild their lives after the devastation of Guatemala’s 35 year civil war.
The cuff bracelet measures 1 3/4″ wide and 5 1/2″ length. It comes with two loops and is flexible for any size wrist.. A crystal bead enclosure fastens the bracelet. A story card is included with your purchase.
The Story
Most of the bead workers of The Mujeres Analizadoras Cooperative in the El Tablon region were left bereaved and widowed after their husbands and sons disappeared during Guatemala’s 30 year long civil war. This was because of El Tablon’s close proximity to the military barracks close by. Left to rebuild their shattered lives, the women created the artisan cooperative as a means to provide income and support their families. Today, through this initiative, they are experiencing a sense of confidence and well-being.
PURCHASE WITH PURPOSE: Ten percent from your purchase of this lovely bracelet will support primary and middle school children in the cooperative through The Amber Chand Scholarship Fund, in collaboration with our non profit partner, Mercado Global. The scholarships cover the cost of enrollment, transport, supplies and uniforms.
