ABOUT THE ARTISANS

This item was handmade by artisans in a fair trade cooperative in India.  In addition to fair wages the artisans receive benefits such as education and medical treatment for their families.  This is one of the longest running fair trade cooperatives, having started in 1986 in one room of a family house.  The artisans have become self-sufficient due to their steady income from fair trade practices.
