This uniquely beautiful placemat/wall hanging (or large trivet) can be used in the kitchen, as art to decorate your home, or however your heart desires. It is handwoven and hand-dyed from raffia fiber in multi-color geometric block patterns.

Measures 14" in diameter, and features an attached loop for hanging on the wall.

All of our products are shipped with cards containing information about fair trade and the corresponding artisan group.

ABOUT THE ARTISANS

This placemat/wall hangings was handwoven by women in a fair trade cooperative in central Uganda.  In addition to earning excellent wages, the women receive interest-free advance payment for the basket/accessory orders. Through sales of their products, nearly 80 weavers earn a steady income, enabling them to make decisions and be less dependent on men for access to food, shelter, health, and education for their children.  In addition, artisans in Uganda are involved in micro-financing, research, and lobbying for women's rights.
